Scalextric

Scalextric is the world’s most iconic slot car racing brand. Originally developed by inventor Fred Francis and unveiled at the Harrogate Toy Fair in 1957, the name is a contraction of ‘Scalex-Electric’, derived from the earlier clockwork Scalex racing cars produced by Francis’s company Minimodels Ltd. Production later moved to Margate in Kent, where Scalextric became part of the Hornby family of brands.

Scalextric sets are built around 1/32 scale cars that race on special slotted track, powered electrically through the slot in each lane. The range spans Formula 1, touring cars, rally cars, Le Mans prototypes, GT cars, NASCAR and classic road cars, with sets available for every age and skill level. Starter sets include everything needed to race straight out of the box, while experienced racers can expand their layouts with additional track, accessories and the Scalextric Digital system, which allows up to six cars to race and change lanes on a single circuit. A smaller Micro Scalextric range in 1/64 scale is also available for younger drivers. Scalextric cars pair perfectly with a huge range of aftermarket parts, and the brand continues to release new licensed vehicles every year.

Wonderland Models stocks a comprehensive Scalextric range including sets, cars, track and accessories. Shop securely online for express shipping or visit our in-store experts in Edinburgh for personalised advice.

Scalextric Racing Sets

Scalextric racing sets are the easiest way to get started. Every set includes slot cars, track, controllers and a power supply – everything you need to start racing straight out of the box. Sets are available across several ranges to suit different ages and experience levels.

The Micro Scalextric range is designed for younger racers, offering compact, durable sets with simple controls and fun themed layouts. The standard Scalextric range provides full-size racing with analogue control, while the ARC (App Race Control) system adds app connectivity, allowing you to manage races and track performance through a smart device. For the most advanced experience, Scalextric Digital enables up to six cars to race simultaneously with lane changing, pit stops and a host of realistic race features.

Scalextric Slot Cars

The Scalextric car range covers a huge variety of vehicles and racing series. GT cars, touring cars, Formula single-seaters, rally cars, classic cars and street cars are all represented, with licensed liveries from real-world motorsport. Cars range from entry-level Start models through to highly detailed, limited-edition releases for serious collectors.

Both analogue and digital cars are available, with digital models featuring a chip that enables lane changing and other advanced features on digital track. Scalextric cars are also available in Super Resistant form, designed to withstand the harder knocks that younger or less experienced racers tend to inflict.

Scalextric Track, Accessories and Spare Parts

One of the great things about Scalextric is the ability to expand and customise your layout over time. Straight and curved track sections, crossovers, chicanes, elevation changes and pit lane extensions allow you to create a circuit that is uniquely yours. Track extension packs bundle popular pieces together for convenience.

Scalextric accessories include trackside buildings, barriers, marshals, pit crews and scenic elements that bring your circuit to life. Power and control upgrades allow you to move from analogue to digital racing as your interest grows.

As an official Scalextric Service Centre, Wonderland Models also stocks a full range of spare parts including motors, braids, tyres, guide blades and gears. If your car needs a repair or a performance upgrade, we have what you need.
