- What is slot car racing and how does Scalextric work?
Slot car racing uses small electric cars that run in a groove, or slot, in a sectional track. Each car is controlled by a hand-held throttle that adjusts its speed, and the skill lies in taking corners as fast as possible without coming off the track.
- Are Scalextric sets suitable for children and beginners?
Yes. Ready-to-run starter sets include everything needed to race straight away and suit older children and families, with manufacturer age guidance shown on each set. More advanced digital systems are also available for experienced racers.
- Can I expand my Scalextric track?
Track can be extended with additional straights, curves and accessory packs to build larger and more complex circuits. It is worth checking whether your set is analogue or digital, as this affects which track and cars are compatible.
- Are older Scalextric cars compatible with modern sets?
Most Scalextric cars are built to 1:32 scale and run on the same track system, so many older cars will run on newer layouts. Compatibility can vary between analogue and digital setups, so check the specification if you are mixing old and new.
- What do I need to get started?
A standard set includes the track, one or more cars, hand controllers and a power supply, so you can race as soon as it is assembled. All you need to add is the space to lay out the circuit.
