Zvezda 1/35 German R12 Heavy Motorcycle with Figures
Model Number: 3632
This plastic motorcycle kit requires paint and glue to complete.
After 1938 the R-12 became the standard heavy motorcycle of the German Wehrmacht in its Solo configuration. They were mainly used for communication, liaison, reconnaissance and by the Military Police. Its sturdy construction allowed for successful use under the difficult conditions of the Eastern Front. The R-12 had an 18HP Boxer engine and could reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

BMW R-12 Motorcycle with 2 figures
BMW is not specified on the Box for obvious reasons, but I felt I needed to start with its specific brand. This is an out-of-the-box review, so I will keep it short and painless. At first view, the Artwork seems quite interesting, especially for a tiny scene just involving two figures. There are two frets of parts in plain light gray color. One is for the motorcycle itself and the other for the two figures, the driver and the pointing commander. The quality is normal for today's standards. There is no flash I could notice, nor sinking holes. All the parts are of the Italeri-style refinement. The box does not come with photo-etched parts for the spokes or other details. What you see is what you get. For some of us a relief, since many photo-etched parts are so fragile and so complicated to mount on tiny objects, that more often than not one may risk to have a ghastly mess at hand, instead of an acceptable replica of the item one intends to depict. The wheel-spokes although not really finely in scale, are far better than the one may encounter for instance in the old Tamiya motorcycle set. They are leaner and sharply reproduced. Here also, one might sense some of Italeri's influence. The decal that comes in the box allows only the depiction of three variants meant for the Eastern Front in 1941. Pity, it would have been nice to have at least two or more variants for other theaters of operation, but being Zvezda located in Russia, it is obvious that they direct their attention mainly to Russian themes. The assembly sheet is very well done and contains an English, French, German, Italian, Spanish brief introduction to the subject, while the painting instructions come only in Russian or English, with Model Master Enamel color specifications.
