The Maus was perhaps the heaviest battle tank ever built, originally destined to be number VIII in the Panzer family tree. The V1 was the first prototype, it's official designation was Sd.Kfz.205 and was first nicknamed as the “Mammut” (Mammoth), later changed derisively to “Maüschen” (little mouse), finally settling on the ironic and iconic “Maus”.
