Iain

I oversee the overall running of Wonderland Models including sales, accounts, purchasing, shop displays and customer service. I am also responsible for the Wonderland Models website.

How long have you been with Wonderland Models?

After leaving school in 1981 and travelling for a year in Canada where I worked as a teacher, barman, waiter, painter, gardener and general odd job handyman. I started work in our Lothian Road shop before moving down to help out in our original shop in Rose Street until it closed and we consolidated back to our main shop in Lothian Road. I have been here ever since!

We have expanded the shop twice since we started nearly 50 years ago and also attend many of the leading model, hobby, and outdoor events throughout the country.

Specialist Subject:

When I started my main interest was radio control models and in my younger days I travelled the country racing electric buggies. Now my time is now spent more on making sure that we maintain our place at the cutting edge of everything to do with model making. There is the opportunity to learn something new every day dealing with customers who are even more enthusiastic about their hobby than I am!

Favourite Model Manufacturer:

Tamiya consistently produce great model kits as well as some excellent paints and modelling accessories.

Main Focus:

To make Wonderland Models the leading independent specialist model and hobby shop in the country.

Favourite Food:

Love a trip to the Italian restaurant Frizzante next door to us for the best pizza or lasagne in town or to my other favourite Italian restaurant Tempo Perso in Morningside where the meatballs are out of this world!

Favourite Film:

Where Eagles Dare is my favourite war film and RV with Robin Williams my favourite comedy.

Favourite Character:

Denzel Washington in the Equalizer although I do think Kevin Bridges as a comedian is brilliant.

Hobbies:

I am an avid rugby fan and season ticket holder for Edinburgh Rugby and follow the Scotland rugby and football team. I also play the occasional game of golf and help to organise the OSS Kinross Masters golf event for the toy and model trade in June each year. I continue to cycle to work every day in an attempt to keep fit and do spinning classes two or three times a week to keep the blood pumping!
