The Corel 5.5 Metre Yacht wooden ship model is an accurate reproduction of the real yacht.
Inshore racing is yacht racing, generally within sight of land or from land to nearby islands, as opposed to offshore racing across open water and oceans. The duration of races may be daylight only, overnight or passage races of several days. These yachting regattas are popular in both Britain and America, and allow for different classes and skills. The 5.5 metre S.I. (International Class) is one of the most common fixed keel regatta yachts included in the “formula” International Classes. The 5.5 m yacht was added to the existing 6, 8 and 12 m yachts in 1949 when a special 5.5 m class was established, used most commonly for inshore racing.
Corel’s 1:25 scale reproduction is based on plans and photographic documentation of a British 5.5 metre yacht built around 1950. Kit contains everything necessary for building a beautiful model. Keel and frames are laser-cut plywood and planking is tanganyka. True-to-scale fittings are made of brass, cast metal and wood. A photo-etched brass sheet provides fine detail. Rigging line comes in two diameters. Sailcloth and flags of five yacht clubs (Great Britain, Australia, France, Italy and New York) are also provided. Five sheets of clear plans and detailed instructions make building easy.
