The Airfix Westland Lynx HMA.8 Gift Set in 1/48 scale from the plastic aircraft model gift set range accurately recreates the real life British patrol helicopter used by the Royal Navy.
This plastic aircraft kit comes with all the paint and glue required to complete the model.
The second major naval variant of the Lynx the MK3 improved upon the MK2 by the improvement of various avionic systems as well as power plant and transmission upgrades. Many specialist versions of the MK3 were produced, one of the most important being the HAS MK3 ICE. This specially modified Lynx serves aboard HMS Endurance in the Antarctic. Here the Lynx undertakes important Antarctic survey work as well as SAR for any other ships operating in the region. Painted with bright Day-Glo panels the Lynxes are also equipped with cameras and other survey equipment. During Desert Storm Mk3 Lynxes destroyed 12 Iraqi vessels with their Sea Skua missiles and proved to be instrumental in defeating the Iraqi navy and allowing the coalition to safely operate in the Persian Gulf. Many MK3s have now been upgraded to MK8 specification but some continue to serve in specialised roles such as the ICE aircraft.
