The Hornby LNER 4-6-2 Class A4 "Mallard" 70th Anniversary (Gold) in the range of Limited Edition Steam Locomotives contains a special edition of the famous Mallard locomotive. The locomotive is DCC Ready.

On the 3rd July 1938 LNER A4 Class No. 4468 pulling a seven coach train reached 126m.p.h. (202.8 km/h) on Stoke Bank on the East Coast Mainline and therefore obtained the World Speed record for a steam locomotive, a record that is still unbeaten to this day. This year sees the 70th Anniversary of the record being achieved and to celebrate this milestone Hornby are producing 3000 models of the 'Mallard' as it was on the momentous day with the exterior metal parts plated in 18ct gold. Each locomotive is presented in a specially commissioned pack and is complete with a numbered certificate.
