LNER 4-6-2 Class A3 "Flying Scotsman" 1988 Australian Bi-centennial R2687 The Hornby LNER 4-6-2 Class A3 "Flying Scotsman" 1988 Australian Bi-centennial in the range of Limited Edition Steam Locomotives contains a celebratory edition of the "Flying Scotsman" with features unique to the Australian bi-centennary. In 1988 Australia celebrated its two hundredth anniversary and part of their celebrations included a visit from the World famous steam locomotive, "Flying Scotsman" owned at that time by Sir William McAlpine. During the visit "Flying Scotsman" achieved many things but above all the locomotive established a new record by steaming 442 miles (711 km) from Parks to Broken Hill without stopping making this journey the longest non-stop run ever recorded by a steam locomotive. In view of this and the anniversary of the Bicentennial Celebrations the Hornby "Flying Scotsman" has been produced as a limited edition of 1000 models incorporating several features that could be seen on the locomotive as it travelled across Australia. Each model is supplied in a commemorative pack complete with numbered certificate. Manufacturer: HornbyModel: R2687 LNER 4-6-2 Class A3 "Flying Scotsman" 1988 Australian Bi-centennial |
