Airfix Models 1/76 88mm Guns and Tractor Description
The Airfix 1/76 88mm Guns and Tractor. This plastic model kit requires glue and paint to finish.
The '88' was best known of all German guns in the Second World War and was used with outstanding success from the Polish campaign right up until the end of the war in Europe.
In the Middle East it was the scourge of the Allied armour, being capable of destroying any tank. The '88' was designed as an anti aircraft gun and had a maximum horizontal range of 16,200 yards and an effective vertical range of 25,000 ft. It could fire either a 20lb high explosive shell or a 21lb armour piercing shell at a suprising rate of fire of between fifteen and twenty rounds a minute.
The semi-track Sd Kfz 7 tractor was later introduced in 1938 and remained in use throughout the war. It was capable of towing an eight ton load at 30mph on roads or 18mph cross-country and could seat 12 troops including driver.
