The
Dragon 1/72 P-38J Droop Snoot is a
plastic model kit in the
Dragon Warbirds Plastic Model Kits range. This Droop Snoot kit from Dragon has received new designed parts, which include a nose formed from transparent plastic. Interestingly, the propeller blades for the left and right booms are created from different molds since the propellers were not identical. Markings are provided to portray a P-38J Droop Snoot nicknamed "Bomba-Dear".
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a fast twin-boom fighter introduced to the USAAF on 8 June 1941. The definitive P-38J appeared a couple of years later in August 1943, with some 2,970 P-38J aircraft eventually being manufactured in America. The Droop Snoot was employed as a bomber formation leader to improve bombing accuracy - the Lightning was stripped of armaments, and the nose replaced with Plexiglas. The bombardier could then sit in the nose with his Norden sight, and release his bomb load for the bomber formation to emulate. With a top speed of 667km/h, the Lightning was fast.
