Launched in December 1963 this was the first Assault ship of the Royal Navy. Designed to act as a Headquarters during an amphibious assault she can carry up to a maximum of 700 troops along with tanks and other heavy equipment, as well as having a helipad landing deck. Used to great effect in the Falklands War in 1982.
