The result of redeveloping the single-engine Ju 52 from 1930 was the Ju 52/3 with 3 engines, offering much more safety. This type was employed by the German Lufthansa over a long period before it was put into service with the German Luftwaffe as a bomber version in 1934. But she was an interim type only which was mainly used, like during the Spanish Civil War, as a transport aircraft in her early operations.
