It has been said before; The Fokker D.VII biplane had a major impact at the end of the Great War. In 1917 the Germans badly needed a replacement for the Fokker Dr.1 triplane to counter the air superiority of the Nieuports and the SPAD's. Fokker entered the Johannestal aircraft competition with his new fighter design, the V-11 and won the contract to build the famous Fokker D.VII.
