Italeri 1/35 Panzerjager Marder III Description
The Italeri 1/35 Panzerjager Marder III is a plastic model kit in the Italeri Military Plastic Model Kits range.
Crash remedy to a crisis situation: antitank guns were installed on every available chassis to increase mobility and firepower of the antitank battalions. So the Germans were able to produce a great number of vehicles in a short time.
The silhouette was too high and the protection of the crew minimal. Some units remained in service until the end of the war although new better models had come up after 1943.
Beware, there is confusion in the naming and the types of Marder. This confusion reflects the diversity of weapons and chassis employed. All Marder I used the same 75 mm Pak 40 gun but on three different chassis, all of French origin. The Marder II were mounted on chassis of Panzer II, but two types of guns were employed. All Marder III employed chassis of Panzer 38 (t), but two types of guns and for one type of gun, two different layouts were adopted, creating three sub-variants !
It is one of the Marder, the makeshift German fix to face the invulnerable Russian tanks in 1942. Also named Panzerjager 38, it is A 76.2 mm gun of Russian origin mounted on the chassis of a Czech tank 38. Identification: Looks like a Marder II with a 76.2 mm gun armed with the same gun. The running gear (return rollers on the Marder III, different shape of the sprocket and the idler) and the overall outlook of the superstructure differentiate the two machines.
