Since its establishment back in 1939, Peterbilt has been considered the leading manufacturer of premium range heavy trucks in the USA. The easily adaptable 4-axle 359 Conventional is still in use today on heavy haulage duties in the north of America and in Alaska. In order to allow heavy goods to be transported over long distances, the truck was designed with three driven rear-axles. The long routes include sections that are very difficult to negotiate so the tractor units have a bull bar mounted in front of the engine hood. The 359 Conventional is equipped with a Cummins-NTC-425 Diesel engine as standard, providing 425 hp. Heavy articulated vehicles often use Cummins engines with up to 1,600 hp or Detroit Diesel aggregates delivering 860 hp. This powerful truck is fitted with a 10-speed Fuller-RT-910-gearbox.
