The
Revell Shelby GT 500E 1967 Eleanor is a
diecast model car in 1/18 scale.
At the beginning of the sixties Ford planned to develop an economical sports car for the younger driver. The market lacked a model that had been specially designed for the baby-boom generation born after World War II. In 1964, after various prototypes had been tested, an attractively designed coupe was presented to the public at the international motor show in New York. It appealed to a wide market.
This Ford Mustang, the original of a whole generation of sports cars, the so-called Pony Cars was followed in 1965 by the Shelby Mustang GT 350 that was also built by Carroll Shelby as was the high performance road version the Shelby Mustang GT 500.
This GT 500 was driven by a big-block 7.1 litre V8 engine that developed 360 bhp and accelerated from 0 - 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. Like the new 1967 Mustang, the GT 500 was upgraded in 1967, giving it a rear spoiler, brake cooling air boxes and the tail lights from the Thunderbird.
