The
Revell Shelby Cobra SC 1965 Red is a diecast model car in 1/18 scale.
Behind the development of the legendary 427 was the initial idea of obtaining a sports car with a powerful American V8 engine. The former racing driver Carroll Shelby sought a chassis for a small, light-weight sports car. He found it at AC CARS and used it with a big and powerful Ford V8 engine. In addition the frame of the AC car was reinforced and the transmission and suspension were adapted to the Ford engine.
In January 1965 the type 427 with a 7 litre engine and 641 Nm at 6500 rpm came out, which could hold its own against the Corvettes with larger engines that were appearing. As usual all the Shelby cars were built for both road use and for racing. Unlike most American muscle cars of that time, in Shelby's designs the engine was relatively far to the rear.
This provided a much better weight distribution, so that the car could hold the road at high speeds, not only on the straight but also on bends. Shelby's intention was for the 427 Cobra, with its combination of light car with large engine, to produce high performance and above all speed. In the semi-competition version the Cobra delivered a good 420 bhp with just over a tonne weight.
This concentrated power made possible acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4 seconds and a top speed of at least 260 km/h. Hardly any car on the race track could beat the 427 Cobra and on the road also for many years there was hardly any car that could approach its performance.
